Abby Hunkler has experience in a variety of practice areas relating to the assessment, repair and rehabilitation of building envelope and structural systems, including historic and contemporary facilities.

Mrs. Hunkler is knowledgeable in the evaluation and repair of existing structures, including brick, concrete or other stone façade repairs, window replacements, roof repairs or replacements, and plaza and below- grade waterproofing. Her experience includes performing building investigations to determine the extent of damage or deterioration to the structure and confirm as-built conditions, evaluating repair options for appropriateness and effectiveness, and developing repair documents. She also has experience in the evaluation and design of snow-country roofing systems, including the design of snow and ice management systems for various roof types.

Mrs. Hunkler is experienced in the evaluation and repair of balcony and deck waterproofing systems. On many projects, she assists the design team in evaluating the performance concerns of the existing system, including damage to building components below, and providing recommendations and ultimately design for repair or replacement of the waterproofing system to improve its performance. She also provides design recommendations for new construction projects based on her breadth of experience with waterproofing system failures.

Mrs. Hunkler is also experienced in the design of building envelope components on modern buildings, including below-grade waterproofing, modern cavity wall construction with numerous façade types, curtain wall, and various steep- and low-slope roofing systems. She has performed construction observation roles for various construction projects to evaluate, and test installed building envelope components. She routinely interfaces with clients and contractors to provide construction phase services.
